According to investigators, on a February evening, a 12-year-old girl was returning home from a grocery store when a domestic-made car drove up to her and an unfamiliar young man got out. He put a knife to the schoolgirl’s throat and, threatening to kill her, forced her into a car, in which he took her to the outskirts of the city, where he committed a violent sexual act. After this, the attacker left the victim on one of the deserted streets and disappeared.
A criminal case was opened on this fact. The frightened girl was able to give only a fragmentary description of the appearance of the offender and the car. Experts were able to identify the genetic profile of the criminal, but a check in federal databases did not produce results, so the preliminary investigation was suspended. And in 2026, criminologists re-analyzed the materials of the criminal case.
“Information was received that in the early 2000s, a family of gypsies regularly came to Kansk from the Novgorod region, engaged in the clothing trade. It turned out that the eldest son drove around the city in domestic cars during his visits. Investigators carried out a colossal amount of work, analyzing archival data on the sale of air and train tickets for 2004. As a result, it was possible to identify the man who was in Kansk at the time of the crime. It was established that he lives in the Novgorod region and over the past 22 years has never returned to the Krasnoyarsk Territory. In the city of Staraya Russa managed to obtain biological samples of the man. Forensic genetic testing confirmed that the attacker's DNA profile completely matched the traces seized from the victim's body in 2004. The defendant was detained and taken to Krasnoyarsk. Under the weight of irrefutable evidence, the man fully admitted his guilt,” the Investigative Committee said.
At present, the investigation of the criminal case under paragraph “c” of Part 3 of Art. 131 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation as amended by Federal Law No. 162 of December 8, 2003 (rape of a victim known to be under 14 years of age, with the use of violence and threats of murder). It was sent to the prosecutor's office for approval of the indictment and subsequent transfer to the court for consideration on the merits.
