In Volyn, during the pursuit of a Mercedes car, a patrolman was hit, after which the police used their service weapons to stop the car. The patrol police of the Volyn region reported this on Facebook on May 5.
“In the morning, a radio message was received about a pursuit of a Mercedes car: the driver was ignoring legal requirements to stop and making dangerous maneuvers,” the law enforcement agency said in a statement.
Patrol officers joined the pursuit and blocked Shevchenko Street in the village of Lipiny (Lutsk region) to block the movement of the car. However, as police reported, the driver ignored the police's demands to stop.
“The Mercedes driver, trying to escape, hit a police officer and then continued driving,” the press service said.
The footage released by the police shows the moment of the collision: as a result of the impact, the patrolman was thrown into the air.
After that, according to the police, due to the threat to the life and health of the police officer and other road users, the victim’s partner used his service firearm and fired shots at the car’s wheels.
Subsequently, other police crews stopped the vehicle and detained the driver.
“An ambulance was immediately called for the injured police officer. He was hospitalized,” the patrol officers said.
Upon the incident, criminal proceedings were opened under Art. 348 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (attack on the life of a law enforcement officer).
