The Capital Budget, adopted on the day of the PSD-AUR censure motion: 8.5 billion lei for 2026. Ciucu: “Let's recover the delays from past years”

The budget of the Capital City Hall was approved with 48 votes “for” and 5 “abstentions”, marking an important moment for the local administration. According to the authorities, it is about a total budget of 8.5 billion lei, an increase of 16% compared to last year.

“Thank you to the General Counsels for their responsibility!“, the local administration sent after the vote.

According to the data presented, of the total amount, 2.7 billion lei are allocated to investments, a significant increase compared to last year, when this chapter was under one billion lei.

4 billion lei are planned for the operating expenses of the Capital City Hall, down from 4.9 billion last year. This category includes expenses such as public lighting, disinsection, rodent control, maintenance of the National Arena, but also the payment of interest and repayments.

Another major chapter is subsidies, which exceed 2.59 billion lei. Of this amount, 1.37 billion go to public transport, and 1.21 billion to the heating system.

The general mayor conveyed that the adoption of the budget is a necessary step for the operation of the city.

“It is important that we finally have an approved budget, even if it came late. Bucharest needs predictability in order to function. I thank the general councilors for the vote – it is a necessary step, but also a responsibility towards the city“, he declared.

The mayor also emphasized the general direction of the budget: increasing investments and reducing administrative expenses.

“We want to reduce operating expenses as much as possible and increase investments. This year's budget goes exactly in that direction and focuses on concrete things that can be seen in the city. Our priority is to complete the projects started and recover the delays of the past years”stated the general mayor.

As for the outstanding payments to the disabled, the authorities give assurances that they will be paid after the budget is approved.

“Once we have the budget, we start paying these debts to the people,” the administration also sent.

The representatives of the Capital City Hall are to return with details regarding the main investment projects scheduled for this year.
