Ledebur's rhododendron, known as “Siberian sakura”, has bloomed in the southern part of the Sayano-Shushensky Nature Reserve. The reserve reported this.

This type of rhododendron is considered one of the most noticeable symbols of spring in the steppes and forests of the Sayano-Shushensky Nature Reserve. The plant is also popularly called maral.

Flowering began on the sun-warmed slopes and open areas of the territory: “Day after day, it increasingly colors the discreet protected steppes, turning them into a shimmering lilac canvas.”

For residents and tourists who want to see the bloom, the reserve administration recommends not to postpone their trip.

“Unfortunately, nature has given this spectacle a short period of time – flowering lasts only a couple of weeks. Therefore, if you want to see this beauty with your own eyes, you should hurry up! However, sometimes rhododendron gives a surprise: repeated flowering occurs in the fall, when individual bushes bloom their delicate buds,” said the reserve’s staff.

Tourists can see the “Siberian sakura” in the Shushensky Bor national park on the EcoBorus ecological trail.
