In his opinion, his formation wrote a new glorious page in the history of the club. When told he was already part of Inter's history, Chivu responded with his trademark dry humor.

“I think I was already there,” Chivu smiled. “I had already done some things as a player… But I'm happy for these guys, for this club, for these wonderful fans who supported us from the very beginning. I won't repeat the whole story of last season, the ironies and the humiliation of this group, but the guys did well, rolled up their sleeves, reborn and found what was needed for a new competitive season,” Chivu began the champion's speech.

He then made a series of statements to Italian TV stations, minutes after the dressing room party, where he was in the foreground on the rhythms of “Made in Romania”, and at the press conference he preferred to let his seconds speak.

The first ideas transmitted by Cristi Chivu after becoming champion with Inter

“This is the 21st title and another page in the glorious history of this club. I was younger then, now I have a few white hairs, but I am as happy as when I was a player. The credit today goes to the footballers, they were magnificent.” said Chivu, in the ninth heaven for triumph.

At the start of the season, few expected him to clinch the Serie A title with three rounds to go and fight for the event, with the Coppa Italia final against Lazio coming up on May 13.

“Given what this club stands for, it was our job to be competitive. There are ups and downs, the season is a marathon and we were the most consistent team overall, even after losing a few games, because we always managed to react and bounce back.

I think in January and February we had 14 wins in 15 games, or something like that, and that's when we realized we could do it. We also had to overcome difficult moments, such as the elimination from the Champions League by Bodø/Glimt and the defeat in the derby, but we always held our heads high, with dignity and the desire to be competitive until the end”, added the Romanian, quoted by sportal.bg.

What Chivu did immediately after the final whistle

Immediately after the final whistle, Chivu disappeared into the tunnel. Asked if he wanted to leave all the glory to his players, he replied:

“I went to smoke a cigarette, I have a few vices, I apologize for that. But yes, they deserve it, and so does the club, who always tried to console us and support us in times of need. I'm an unusual person, I had to talk to myself at some point between life and death, so that's when I lost my ego. I don't feel the need to talk about myself”, said the Romanian.

Traditionally, Serie A is won by the team with the best defense, but Chivu and Inter focused on the best attack, with over 100 goals scored.

“We always wanted to be proactive and depending on the opponents we had different options, like two playmakers, to deal with their pressure. It's also about understanding different moments in the game.

My predecessors also did an excellent job here, so if these guys know certain things about the game, it's also because of the coaches who came before me and made it easier for me and my staff. It's the players who win the titles and give you what you dreamed of as a little kid.” Chivu added.

He managed to win the Scudetto in a competition with legends like Antonio Conte, Max Allegri and Luciano Spalletti.

“They are great coaches and I can only learn from them. I will continue to learn from them. I will continue to learn from them, coaches who are young like me can only continue to learn”Chivu concluded.
