Every summer resident who grows cabbage wants the crunch of a fresh vegetable. But dreams may not come true thanks to pests. How to cope with the numerous cabbage lovers without using store-bought chemicals? It turns out that everything is possible with the help of proper agricultural technology and simple folk recipes.
Caterpillars
Voracious butterfly larvae that gnaw large holes in the leaves and also crawl inside the developing head of cabbage.
It is necessary to cover the plantings with a net with 2×2 cm cells. If butterflies have already appeared, regularly inspect the underside of the leaves and destroy the laid eggs.
Slugs
They eat large holes not only on the leaves, but also inside the heads of cabbage, which are literally eaten away. The soil around the cabbage should be sprinkled with mustard powder and crushed eggshells. Traps also help: dig shallow containers with kvass or sweet water with yeast along the edges of the bed, and also lay out planks – slugs will crawl under them, and they can then be collected.
Cruciferous flea beetle
The appearance of this tiny bug is indicated by leaves covered with many small holes. Most often, young seedlings suffer and may even die.
At the first signs, you should immediately dust the foliage with ash mixed with lime. And sprinkle the soil around the plants with tansy infusion (500 g of herb, pour 10 liters of water, leave for a day, then boil).
Aphid
It usually appears in dry weather and settles on the underside of leaves and on the tops of plants. The foliage begins to curl, turn yellow, and later a moldy coating forms on it.
Method of control: Spray infected bushes with infusions of insecticidal herbs with soap or just a soap solution (300 g of laundry soap per bucket of water). Repeat the treatment every week. Old stalks must be dug up and burned.
Scoop
They damage everything: leaves, roots and stems. During the day, pests hide in the depths of the earth. Therefore, from mid-summer, you need to constantly loosen the soil around the bushes, and also use biological products “Lepidocid” or “Bitoxibacillin”.
Whitefly
If this pest is detected, the cabbage is sprayed with garlic infusion (chop two cloves, add a liter of water, leave for 24 hours). Treatment is carried out once a week.
