22 banned electronics brands. “Similar products are offered by Russian manufacturers”


The Russian government has decided to suspend imports into the country popular computer models, hard drives and RAM from “unfriendly countries” under “parallel import”. According to the new list of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, which will come into force on May 27, the ban will cover Acer computers – one of the most frequently purchased brands in the country, ranking fourth in terms of popularity.

The ban applies, among others, to: Asus, Fujitsu, HP, Hitachi, IBM, Intel, Kingston, Samsung, Toshiba computers, 22 marks in total. “Similar products that have been excluded from the 'parallel import' list are offered by Russian producers in quantities sufficient to replace goods from unfriendly countries,” the Ministry of Industry and Trade explained on Monday.

Russian equivalents, if they exist at all, they are produced in limited quantities and are often inferior to foreign ones in terms of parameters – Aleksandr Fedulov, director of the Krasny Dielfin company producing computer equipment, told “Kommersant”. – This could lead to higher prices and problems, especially in the face of shortages of memory, hard drives and RAM.

Billions of dollars for products from “unfriendly countries”

The Russian authorities are gradually restricting parallel imports, introduced in 2022, to prevent shortages after withdrawal Western brands. Last year, the government withdrew cosmetics and perfumes from “unfriendly” countries from this list. The Ministry of Industry and Trade also announced the exclusion from parallel import of clothing and equipment that, according to the authorities, was replaced by suppliers of “friendly” countries or by domestic producers.

According to data from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, from January to November 2025, goods worth $20.9 billion were imported to Russia as part of “parallel import”, i.e. without the consent of the rights owner. (approx. PLN 76 billion) – by 45 percent less than in the same period a year earlier ($37.9 billion, or approximately PLN 138 billion at the current exchange rate).
