Thousands of demonstrators took to the streets, burning police cars and blocking roads. Demonstrators tore down a statue of former President Hugo Chavez, tore down posters of Maduro on main streets and burned Cuban flags.
The Simon Bolivar International Airport in Maiquetia is reported to have been captured.
All entrances to the presidential palace in Caracas are blocked. Protesters clashed with police and pro-Madurov groups, pelting them with rocks and sticks and fending off bullets and tear gas.
