In December last year, Aleksander Butiagin was detained by the Internal Security Agency in one of Warsaw's hotels. In March, the District Court in Warsaw agreed to his extradition to Ukraine. A Russian researcher is suspected of destroying priceless archaeological sites in Crimea. He is one of the Kremlin's key collaborators.

Aleksander Butiagin about his stay in Poland. “It's not a pleasant experience”

After returning to Russia, the scientist gave an interview to state media. — I've never been arrested before. Arrest, pre-trial detention, trial, and then the monotony of prison. Almost five months in prison. This is not a pleasant experience. They just wanted to extradite me to Ukraine. Poland didn't need me, he said in an interview with RT television.

He also stated that his case would set a precedent for international law. — Now every Russian scientist who goes to Europe or gets such an opportunity will always remember this. All this works against science and unification, but unfortunately, it is true. The world has changed so terribly, he said.

He also recalled the words he allegedly heard from a Polish policeman. “Now even scientists are being arrested, these are the times,” said Alexander Butyagin.

The Moldovan IPN agency writes that Andrzej Poczobut was exchanged directly for Alexandru Balan. The one from Chisinau was supposed to go to Poland and then to Russia. Balan is the former deputy head of the Moldovan intelligence services, convicted of revealing state secrets.
