The first city competition of young calligraphers was held in Krasnoyarsk (video)

The first citywide competition “Best Calligrapher – 2026” has ended in Krasnoyarsk. Almost 3.5 thousand primary school students competed in the art of penmanship. The award ceremony took place on April 30 – the organizers named twelve absolute winners from all over the city.

The competition started in January and consisted of three stages. First, the children demonstrated their skills in schools, then the best were sent to regional tests. In the final, students in grades 1-4 completed three tasks: beautifully rewrote the text, disassembled letters into their component elements, and connected five complex syllables. The teachers note that the second test turned out to be the most difficult, but in the end the children coped with the challenge with dignity.

According to the results of the competition, the first places in their parallels were taken by students from gymnasium No. 13 “Akadem”, schools No. 156 and 147. Separately, the organizers singled out Lyceum No. 6 “Perspective”, whose students took three prizes at once in different age categories.

The idea to bring the competition to the level of the entire Krasnoyarsk was proposed by specialists from the city Center for Professional Self-Determination. For the previous two years, calligraphy competitions were held only among schoolchildren in the Sovetsky district.

This time, the organizers won the city intellectual competition and enlisted the support of colleagues from Krasnoyarsk schools. It took almost a year to prepare the large-scale event.

“I have a dream and mission to bring beautiful writing back to our schools. We looked at the finalists’ works, and I can confidently call them masterpieces, because not all children can write so beautifully,” shared the initiator of the competition, additional education teacher Alena Gegel.

The number of participants proves that being able to write by hand correctly and accurately is still important. In the future, the team plans to reapply for a grant and hold this competition next year.
