US intelligence agencies are studying how Iran would react if US President Donald Trump declared victory over Tehran. Reuters reported this on April 28, citing three sources.
The request came from “senior administration officials.”
Intelligence must understand the implications of Trump's potential withdrawal from a conflict that advisers and other senior administration officials believe could lead to significant losses for Republicans in the midterm elections later this year.
The agency notes that no decision has been made on the matter and it is unclear when intelligence agencies will complete their impact assessment.
The CIA said it had no knowledge of the assessment. The office of the director of national intelligence did not respond to a request for comment.
White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly said the United States was still negotiating with Tehran and was “in no rush to make a bad deal.”
