Septimiu Ormenișan, the first coach in Olimpiu Moruțan's career, tries to find explanations for the regression recorded by “Oli” at Rapid. Cataloged in the winter, at the time of his arrival, as a “title transfer”, the 27-year-old footballer severely disappointed in Giulesti, his developments in the play-off leaving much to be desired.

Criticized by numerous football people – including the speedsters Săpunaru and Ovidiu Herea – Olimpiu Moruțan is bailed by his first childhood coach, professor Septimiu Ormenișanto whom Moruțan was a disciplinarian at U Cluj.

In an interview given to Gazeta Sporturilor on Wednesday, Ormenișan, the mentor from Olimpiu Moruțan's youth, commented on the bad pass that the Rapid player goes through, being walked by Gâlcă both on the winger and behind the top.

The first coach in his career, about the situation of Olimpiu Moruțan: “This position does not suit him! His physical training is not very good either”

Ormenișan, a talent polisher with over 30 years of experience, is the one who raised Olimpiu Moruțan from 9 to 14 years old, in the children's and junior groups at U Cluj.

– Professor Ormenișan, what do you think is happening with Olimpiu Moruțan during this period?
– Olimpiu was, is and will be a player with an above average technique that we have. He has a great ability to create frequent one-on-one imbalances. If you want to ask me why he didn't succeed at Rapid… Personally, I think one reason is the injury he suffered (no before EURO 2024), which affected him physically and especially mentally, because he lost the qualification for the European Championship. He really, really wanted to be there. Let's not forget that he contributed in a very important way to Romania's qualification for the EURO, let's remember the assists he gave with Switzerland. And there is something else that affected him.

– What exactly?
– On a mental level, this instability that he had at the club level also affected him a lot, I mean the departure from Galatasaray, the departure from Pisa. I spoke to him and he told me that he expected to continue in Serie A, to stay there. But that accident pulled him down a lot.

– I guess you still follow his matches, his developments, the way he played at Rapid.
– All the time! Know that everyone watches their children and suffers when they see that the game is not going well. I've actually spoken to him several times and try to give him support, tell him what I can to improve his game. Now, we know that Rapid is not an easy team, a “hard” team, where there are big claims. He is too good a child, too gentle, too modest and with common sense! If only it were a little more “golan”, in the football sense…

– What do you say about his position in the field?
I think, from my point of view, he doesn't suit the position of midfielder, number 10, behind the two tops. It seems more appropriate to me, plus that's where he gave results, both with the national team and at Galatasaray, on the right side of the field: right wing, extreme. But I think he still has the right age and quality to reconfirm.

– Where do you see Olimpiu from next season? Should he continue at Rapid or would an experience abroad be more appropriate for his psyche, peace of mind?
– I'm a follower of continuity and I think he should continue and play in a position that suits him. I don't think this position of attacking midfielder suits him. I think it's not very good with physical training either. As proof that even Gâlcă doesn't use it for a whole match. But Olimpiu remains one of the players who bring charm and create a pleasure to see him. But not now. In the last few games, I didn't like how he played either, but what can we do? That's how it is in life, you can go through less good times. He certainly has the talent and ability to bounce back. Everything also depends on continuity, it depends on the trust that the coach gives him. He is a moral child, with a lot of common sense.

I know, Moruțan was injured and it is more difficult for him to adjust. It's just that, may God forgive me!, this talented boy has not settled anywhere, neither in Turkey, nor in Italy, nor in Greece! Everywhere he promised, but he always went out the back door. As he turned, I repeat, 27 years old, it wouldn't hurt to wake up to reality and take life seriously. It would be time, if it hasn't already passed.
