Krasnoyarsk was convicted of the death of two children in a fire

29 April 16:10

The court found a 21-year-old resident of Krasnoyarsk guilty of causing the death by negligence of her young sons as a result of a fire.

Let us remind you that the tragedy happened in April 2025 in a two-story building on Gastello Street. It was established that the mother left two sleeping children – a three-year-old and a ten-month-old – unattended in the apartment, and she left for a short time on business, locking the door and relying on the fact that their grandfather would return soon. At some point, the older child woke up and began playing with a lighter – igniting it near the clothes on the dryer. As a result, a fire occurred, releasing carbon monoxide, and the children suffocated and died.

According to the conclusion of the forensic medical examination, the death of the minors occurred as a result of acute poisoning by combustion products.

“Experts confirmed that the fire started from the flame of a lighter left in an accessible place. The mother knew about her son’s interest in fire – a year earlier he had already tried playing with matches. The investigation showed that the children had been alone before and smoked in the house. But the mother insisted: “This is an accident with no connection to the causes of the fire, the grandfather promised to come and look after the children,” the prosecutor’s office said.

According to Part 3 of Art. 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, the court sentenced the Krasnoyarsk woman to 2 years of imprisonment in a penal colony. Serving of the sentence was deferred for the period of her pregnancy and until the born child reaches the age of 14 years.
