The continued application of reduced VAT rates and excise duty on gasoline and diesel fuel in the period May 1-15 will cost the budget approximately PLN 496 million in the case of VAT and PLN 350 million in the case of excise duty – according to the assessment of the effects of the regulations on the extension of preferential tax solutions for fuels until May 15.

The deadline for reduced VAT rates and excise duty on gasoline and diesel oil has been extended from April 30 to May 15 this year.

“The cost for the budget of extending the period of application of the above-mentioned reduced excise tax rates by two weeks, i.e. until May 15, 2026, is approximately PLN 350 million in reduced excise tax revenues. The total cost of applying reduced excise tax rates on the above-mentioned motor fuels in the period from March 30, 2026 to May 15, 2026 is approximately PLN 1,100 million,” it was written in the regulatory impact assessment (OSR) of the regulation on excise duty rates.

“The effect of extending the temporary reduction in the VAT rate to 8% from May 1 to May 15, 2026 for motor gasoline, aviation gasoline, gasoline and kerosene fuel for jet engines and diesel oils classified in PKWiU 19.20.2 was estimated at approximately PLN -496.0 million,” it was written in the OSR of the VAT regulation.

In the period March 30 – April 30 this year. the government estimated the cost to the budget of the VAT reduction on fuels at approximately PLN 930 million and the excise tax at approximately PLN 750 million.

The VAT rate on gasoline, diesel oil and biocomponents constituting autonomous fuels has been reduced to 8%. with 23 percent In turn, excise duty on fuels was reduced to the lowest level allowed by the European Union, i.e. 29 groszy per liter of gasoline and 28 groszy per liter of diesel oil.

In accordance with the regulations, maximum fuel prices also apply temporarily. The Ministry of Energy publishes an announcement on this matter every weekday. The maximum price is valid from the day following its publication in Monitor Polski. (PAP Business)
