Trump: “Iran has informed us that it is in a state of collapse. It is asking us to open the Strait of Hormuz as soon as possible”

US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that Iran had informed him that it was in a “state of collapse” and that it was trying to clarify the situation with its leadership, according to Reuters.

“Iran just informed us that they are in a 'state of collapse'. They want us to 'open the Strait of Hormuz' as soon as possible while they try to clarify the situation to their leadership (which I think they will succeed in doing!). Thank you for your attention to this matter!” Trump wrote in a post on TruthSocial.

It's not clear from Trump's post how Iran delivered that message.

Iran's latest proposal to settle the two-month-old war called for postponing talks on its nuclear program until the conflict ends and shipping disputes in the Persian Gulf are resolved.

Trump wants problems with the nuclear program to be addressed from the beginning, said a US official briefed on the White House leader's meeting with his advisers on Monday.
