A liberal leader announces that Bolojan presented them with the resolution about “the life of the PNL from here on out”. “The decision is final”

MEP Gheorghe Falcă stated that during the meeting of the National Political Bureau (BPN) of the PNL on Tuesday, his party colleagues reinforced the point of view adopted three weeks ago, that the PNL will no longer take part in a government with the PSD, and the resolution presented by Ilie Bolojan in the meeting addressed many things about “the life of the PNL from here on out”.

“I welcomed the decision of my colleagues to maintain the point of view that we issued three weeks ago, we reinforced it a week ago, that is, the PNL will not be part of a government with the PSD, which, let's say, is a final decision. We made a decision today that we will not take part in a government with the PSD. We are in a debate, where Mr. President presented a resolution with many more things for what it means, because we are very interested in staying the same serious party, let's have a serious president, a trust among the population, and I believe that Romania needs such parties that keep their word and strong leaders”, said Gheorghe Falcă in the Parliament, while the meeting of the Political Bureau of the PNL was in progress.

In the context, he was asked about the claims of some PNL leaders regarding a reconciliation with the PSD.

“The party voted today, 34 people were in favor of maintaining our decision and 10 people abstained. The decision is final,” stated Falcă, quoted by Agerpres.

If PNL enters the opposition and excludes any collaboration with PSD, “it is the responsibility of those who have a majority today”, according to him.

“I am sure that when they go to the president of Romania, they will have the solution,” said Falcă.

He reiterated that he is waiting for a solution from the new majority in the Parliament, “because that is the political math”.

“We were a fair party, we assumed responsibility for the position of prime minister 10 months ago, when no one in Romania wanted this position, we approved a government program that we respected and received a no-confidence motion. (…) There is, at this moment, a majority in Parliament, I can't wait to see Mr. Grindeanu and Mr. Simion hand in hand, each with national-extremist policies, and give a solution for Romania, because that's how the political math is”, Falcă also affirmed.

The liberal MEP mentioned that President Nicușor Dan was notified three weeks ago about this position of PNL in relation to PSD.

The PNL leaders discussed the party's future strategy this evening, in the party meeting, convened after the Bolojan cabinet was dismissed by a motion of no confidence. During the discussions, two camps emerged, one that wants continued participation in the government and another that insists on breaking relations with the PSD and moving into the opposition.

Shortly after the beginning of the meeting, the liberals also voted to strengthen the resolutions already adopted by the party, according to which the PNL will no longer collaborate with the PSD. 34 Liberals voted in favor and 10 abstained.
