The PNL announces its decision, after submitting the censure motion: It will no longer make any alliance with the PSD

The PNL announced on Monday evening that it will no longer make “any alliance” with the PSD, after the social democrats signed the censure motion against the Government led by Ilie Bolojan, together with the AUR. The liberals accuse the PSD of “choosing a deeply wrong and harmful path for Romania”, but also that, like AUR, “they lied to their electorates”.

In a statement sent after the submission of the censure motion, the PNL claims that PSD's association with AUR represents “a signal of irresponsibility” both for Romanians and for Romania's external partners.

“PSD and AUR are not only dealing a serious blow to reforms against privileges and public money taps open to interest groups, but also to political and economic stability. Together, PSD and AUR are deepening the political crisis, and this means the risk of increased unemployment, the risk of economic decline, higher interest rates for the loans needed by the country. The economy will be severely affected. The signals from the stock market are already visible,” the liberals said.

PNL also claims that PSD and AUR “lied to their electorates” and that the two parties “do not come with solutions, only with the policy of demolition”.

“Romania needs a serious government, led by Ilie Bolojan”

The Liberals say they will continue to support the Bolojan Government and ask MPs to vote against the no-confidence motion.

“PNL will no longer make any alliance with PSD and will fight to the end for the values and reforms that it promoted in the Government of Romania. We continue to maintain that Romania needs a serious government, led by Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, anchored in European and transatlantic values, capable of carrying the reforms to the end,” the statement added.

The liberals also sent a message to the PSD MPs who “reclaim themselves from pro-European values”, arguing that they cannot declare themselves pro-European and, at the same time, vote with the AUR against the Government.

AUR and PSD signed the motion against the Bolojan Government

The leader of AUR, George Simion, announced on Tuesday that his party, together with the PSD and other opposition parties, collected the necessary signatures to initiate the procedure to dismiss the Bolojan Government.

According to Simion, 253 signatures were collected, and later the number reached 254. To adopt the motion, 233 votes out of the total of 463 parliamentarians are needed.

PSD, AUR, POT, SOS, PACE and unaffiliated parliamentarians together have 281 votes.

The censure motion was submitted on Tuesday, at 2:00 p.m., to the offices of the presidents of the two Chambers of the Parliament, and the leadership of the Parliament decided that the vote should take place next week.
