Grindeanu says he will inform European officials about the PSD consultation on leaving the government. “The life of Romanians is getting worse and worse”

PSD President Sorin Grindeanu said on Wednesday that during his visit to Brussels, where on Thursday he will also meet with the President of the European Parliament and the Head of the European Council, he will inform the interlocutors “about the political situation in Romania”, but also about the consultation within the party regarding

The PSD consultation, said Sorin Grindeanu, on Wednesday evening, in an intervention on Romania TV, will “start with a self-evaluation”.

“From our point of view, the colleagues will decide on April 20, but I can tell you my opinion. My opinion is that a better, more articulated government is needed. I think that at this moment the effects of some measures taken badly last fall can be seen now,” declared the PSD leader.

Asked if “the presence of Bolojan” or “the presence of the USR” are what “spoils the functionality of the government”, he answered: “This is not about personal issues. This is not about putting stamps on other political formations. Here, from my perspective, it is about the life of Romanians, which is getting worse and worse. It is clear that something went wrong somewhere. It is clear that we have to do things better.”

“During this period, we will have meetings in counties, regions, with members and local elected officials, to inform them about the current situation, to discuss possible future scenarios, following this internal referendum. It's a consultation as normal as possible, it's internal, it's about us, about what we've done so far”, Grindeanu added.

He said that he “asked the PSD ministers in the Government, according to their schedule and availability, of course, to try to participate in all these meetings, to come and say what they did, what they could have done better, what they didn't do.”

“We will not support a minority government”

The PSD leader ruled out a possible alliance with AUR, but also a possible support of a minority government, in case the social democrats decide to go into opposition.

“Here I am clear (…). PSD does not make an alliance and does not form a majority with AUR, it is excluded. This thing was also seen last week, in the Parliament. If we wanted to do this, believe me it was very simple for us to do it and certain amendments would have been passed very quickly (…). We will not support a minority government.

He said that the PSD is ready to go into opposition if this will be the majority option in the internal consultation.

“There is a majority even without the PSD. I saw the marshmallows that the prime minister also sent, and certain prominent leaders, some, no, others, yes, from the PNL to the AUR. It's their job, we don't decide for the PNL, we don't decide for the USR, we decide for us and for the path that the PSD takes”, Sorin Grindeanu also declared.
