During the discussions at the Cotroceni Palace, attended by PSD, PNL, USR and UDMR representatives, the head of state would have learned that the process of submitting the censure motion has advanced.

The quoted sources claim that only after the end of the meeting in Cotroceni did it become clear that PSD and AUR are going to submit a joint censure motion.

According to the same information, after Tuesday, the president would convene consultations with the parliamentary parties starting on Wednesday, in the context of the political developments in the Parliament.

PSD and AUR submitted a joint motion against the Bolojan Government

The censure motion against the Government led by Ilie Bolojan was submitted on Tuesday, April 28, in the Parliament, after the Social Democratic Party and the Alliance for the Union of Romanians announced the initiation of the initiative just a day ago.

According to a PSD press release today, the social democrats claim that the initiative would open “the way to a profound change in the mode of government. For its adoption, a minimum of 233 votes from the total of 463 parliamentarians is needed.

The PSD currently has 129 deputies and senators, and the AUR has 90, which means that together they reach 219 votes, 14 less than the required threshold. The executive is supported in Parliament by PNL, USR and UDMR.

The announcement regarding the submission of the motion was made on Monday, April 27, when PSD and AUR representatives specified that it was a “strictly technical” step, necessary to meet the number of signatures required by the procedure.

The leader of the AUR senators, Petrișor Peiu, emphasized that the initiative does not represent a political pact, but a specific collaboration: “We decided to have a joint motion. We are making a joint effort to draft a motion of censure to be submitted to the Parliament. This will be debated at the beginning of May, with a view to the dismissal of the Bolojan Government. There is no pact with the PSD, it is a collaboration so as not to make two motions and have them both fail.”

For his part, the PSD representative, Marian Neacșu, appealed to the parliamentarians to support the initiative.

Asked about the possibility of forming a PSD-AUR government, Neacșu stated that political decisions will be taken later, by the party's internal forums. At the same time, Peiu declared that there were no concrete discussions regarding a possible majority, the main objective being the triggering of early elections.
