US President Donald Trump offered an unusual explanation after the moments of panic produced during the evening of Saturday, April 25, at the Correspondents' Dinner at the White House, where gunshots fired near the room triggered the emergency evacuation of the officials present, reports thedailybeast.

Asked why Vice President JD Vance was removed from the room before him, the White House leader said Secret Service agents had a harder time dealing with him because he initially refused to leave without understanding what was going on.

In an interview with “60 Minutes”, Donald Trump described in detail the sequences of the evacuation and said that his reaction made the mission of the protection team difficult.

“Well, what happened was partly my fault,”
explained Donald Trump, adding: “I wanted to see what was going on, and I didn't make their job any easier. I wanted to see what it was all about. And in the meantime, we started to realize that it might be a serious problem, a different kind of problem, a nasty one.”

According to footage captured during the incident, security guards removed JD Vance from the hall within seconds, while a protective device formed around the president and it took more time to evacuate him. The American journalist drew his attention to this aspect during the interview, noting that the reaction around him seemed chaotic.

In this context, Donald Trump claimed that Vice President JD Vance was evicted before him by security agents because he tried to observe what was happening around him before agreeing to leave the room.

“I was surrounded by great people and I probably slowed them down a little bit. I said, 'Wait a minute, wait a minute. Let me see, wait a minute,'” he explained.

The president recounted that he was eventually urged by the agents to lie on the floor as he was led out of the room with the first lady.

“Then I started walking with them. I turned around, started walking. And they said, 'Please get down. Please get down on the floor.' So I got down and the First Lady got down, too. But the agents asked us to do it as we were walking.” he described the moments of chaos during the evacuation.

Asked if the Secret Service agents basically wanted him and Melania Trump to crawl out of the hall, the American leader briefly confirmed: “Something like that.”

However, footage of the moment the US president is led out of the ballroom shows Donald Trump stumbling and falling as agents struggle to pick him up and support him to safety.

We remind you that the incident took place during the evening of Saturday, April 25, at the Washington Hilton Hotel, where the traditional White House Correspondents' Dinner was held, where an armed man passed a checkpoint and opened fire near the entrance to the ballroom.

A Secret Service agent was hit in the vest but escaped without serious injury. The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen, was arrested shortly after the attack. The man was carrying several firearms and knives and that he would have targeted high-ranking US administration officials present at the event. He is to appear before the federal court and, according to the latest information, he could be charged with the attack on Donald Trump.

The attack led to the cancellation of the event, and the White House had to manage one of the most tense security breaches in recent months surrounding the American president.
