Kelemen Hunor claims to keep the supply of the addition to food: “People have to feel protected”

The president of the UDMR, Kelemen Hunor, told Antena 3 on Thursday that he intends to support in the ruling coalition that the ceiling of the commercial addition to the basic foods will be extended after October 1, when it expires.

The ceiling of commercial addition to basic foods is a theme that has generated tensions in the coalition. The spokesman for the Government, Ioana Dogioiu, transmitted on Saturday, September 13, that the decision of the ceiling was not already taken unanimously, which is denied by the PSD. On Wednesday, after a meeting of the Coalition leaders, it was not a consensus.

Asked if the ceiling of the commercial addition is maintained or not, the UDMR leader said that the decision has not yet been discussed in the coalition.

“First of all, it was not a coalition discussion. It is coalition and when they are at the government meeting, it is coalition and with the deputy prime ministers, it was a discussion in the government, but in the coalition there was a decision,” said Kelemen Hunor, at Antena 3.

“On the other hand, when we increased VAT and increased energy prices, inflation is almost ten percent. In September it will exceed 10% categorically, no matter what it says. I said today in the coalition that I am to keep this ceiling, people have to feel like they are protected,” Kelemen Hunor added.

Kelemen Hunor says that since 2023, since the ceiling was introduced, “a more reasonable price” has been kept in the shelf.

“There are some issues that do not necessarily depend on us or just to a small extent, but there are issues that are related to us-to protect people from big inflation and this is seen in statistics that from 2023 since this ceiling was introduced in those segments, a more reasonable price has been kept, we must be kept next week-this will be our position- Hunor.

Until September 30, 17 categories of products and foods have the commercial addition capped at no more than 5%:

The measure of the ceiling of the commercial addition was first taken in June 2023, when Prime Minister was Marcel Ciolacu (PSD).
