Another city in Romania bans gambling: “There's no point in telling you what I went through”

Câmpulung becomes the fourth city in Romania, after Iași, Sibiu and Brăila, which decided to ban gambling on Monday.
The announcement was made on Facebook by the mayor of Câmpulung, Elena Lasconi.
“Starting today, gambling is prohibited in Câmpulung. There is no point in telling you what I went through. What is important is the interest of the citizens. I know that they are also dissatisfied, but I am convinced that everyone will eventually agree that the measure is in the interest of the community,” wrote Lasconi.
Also on Monday, the local councils of Brăila and Sibiu decided to ban gambling halls.
The Romanian Patriarchate also intervened and warned, on Monday, about the social and moral effects of gambling and asked for measures to limit the phenomenon.
“Practices related to gambling promote the illusion of quick and effortless gain, cultivating a mentality that can lead to addiction, as well as to the loss of inner freedom and moral values,” say representatives of the Patriarchate.
They call for “responsibility on the part of all the factors involved – individuals, families, institutions and public authorities – in order to limit the expansion of this phenomenon, to protect human dignity and to encourage the common good”.
