In Krasnoyarsk today, April 26, on the day of the 40th anniversary of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, a monument to participants in the liquidation of the consequences of the disaster was unveiled. Mayor Sergei Vereshchagin announced this on his social network page.
A memorial by the famous artist-sculptor Konstantin Zinich was installed in Severny at the intersection of Komsomolsky Ave. and st. Mate Zalki – on the Alley of Heroes of Chernobyl. 20 years after its founding, this space of people’s memory has acquired a holistic image, the head of the city noted.

“Almost 900 Krasnoyarsk residents worked at the epicenter of the accident, 393 of them were awarded orders and medals for courage and heroism. I am grateful to the public organization of disabled people of the Chernobyl Union for the initiative to install the sculptural composition. It is symbolic that there are two figures in it – only together could people cope with a disaster of such a scale. Low bow to the liquidators for their feat. We will not forget and pass it on to future generations,” said Sergei Vereshchagin.
