Nicușor Dan, about the drone from Galati: “The first incident in which Romanian properties were damaged / A threshold that we look at seriously”

The Presidential Administration sent a message from President Nicușor Dan related to the incident in Galați where a Russian drone crashed and damaged a household. The president states that it is the first time that a drone has damaged property in Romania, but at the same time he appreciates the way the authorities handled the incident.
“Citizens must be safe, and this goal remains the absolute priority. The responsible institutions acted correctly and coordinated, managing to minimize the risks through the controlled detonation of the fragments from the Russian drone,” says President Nicușor Dan.
Reconfirmation to support Ukraine
At the same time, the president condemns the “irresponsible behavior” of Russia.
“Such incidents, such as the drone that fell last night in Galați, demonstrate the lack of respect for the norms of international law, endangering the safety of the citizens of Romania, a member state of NATO”, claims the head of state.
“This is the first incident in which Romanian properties were actually damaged, a threshold we look at with all seriousness,” continues Nicușor Dan.
It states that the support given by Romania to Ukraine since the beginning of Russia's aggression remains a correct decision, consistent with the interests of our country, something that “must be strongly reaffirmed from all levels of the state to dispel any doubt of some citizens.”
“However, tonight's incident emphasizes the need to accelerate the Army's endowment and modernization programs, so that we can adequately respond to the current risks. The SAFE procurement plan is essential,” the president concluded.
The crashed drone in Galati
The drone that fell on the night of Friday to Saturday in Galati, during a Russian attack in the area of the Ukrainian city of Reni, has an explosive charge, and the authorities have evacuated over 200 locals from the area. Later, 315 people were evacuated from their homes on the route of the special transport organized by the authorities for the drone, to the place outside the city where the drone was detonated.
The point where the Russian drone crashed in Galati, hitting an electricity pole and an outbuilding in a yard, is 14 kilometers from the nearest Ukrainian border.
