– We actually felt this conflict. ACI (the Association of Airports Council International – PAP) asked approximately 80 airports that are members of the association what the amount of lost traffic is, and the average there is 11%. Chopin Airport – we can already say that, because we have closed March – it is 9 percent. This, of course, resulted in (…) lost revenues. – said a representative of Polish Airports during a panel at the European Economic Congress in Katowice.

Sanocki noted, however, that – despite the loss of some traffic – the number of passengers served at the capital's airport increased in March this year. by over 3 percent

Maciej Lasek, deputy minister of infrastructure and government representative for CPK, who was present on the panel, referred to the disruptions in air traffic caused by the conflict in the Middle East.

The deputy head of MI noted that the aviation industry is such a sensitive business that any disruption, such as the war in Ukraine or the closure of communication routes, which translates into high fuel prices, “will affect virtually all airlines.”

– I took part in the informal Council of Ministers of the European Union and we talked for practically two hours about problems, mainly aviation problems, i.e. access to fuel. There are countries, such as Italy, which are currently rationing the refueling of commercial aircraft. In Poland, we have not yet reached this problem, we still have supplies – said Lasek.

However, he said that if the situation persists longer, he does not rule out that “this problem may affect many more countries.”

The deputy minister also pointed out that airlines are starting to raise ticket prices and cancel less profitable connections, which is a bad signal because the summer season or the holiday peak of travel is starting soon.

Lasek also noted that the price of aviation fuel has more than doubled so far, which has not yet translated into ticket prices. – These are the costs that airlines, every airline, incur today. Whether these are low-cost lines or traditional lines – he said. He noted that for air carriers, the purchase of fuel is one of the highest costs.

As PPL reported in mid-April, in March this year Chopin Airport served over 1.7 million passengers, i.e. almost 3.5 percent more. more than in the same period of the previous year. In the entire first quarter, 5.2 million people were served, i.e. 8%. more year to year.

Warsaw Chopin Airport is the largest airport in Poland and one of the largest airports in Central and Eastern Europe. In 2025, it served 24 million passengers.

PPL is a leading entity in air transport infrastructure in Poland. Its resources include, among others: Warsaw Chopin Airport. PPL is also the parent entity of the PPL Capital Group. It holds shares or stock in 17 companies, including: airport managers. The company is owned by the State Treasury. (PAP)
