VTB clients now have access to payment for goods using a QR code in Egypt

VTB continues to expand opportunities for instant payment for goods using a QR code abroad.

For VTB clients, including those who transferred from Pochta Bank, when traveling to Egypt, it is enough to point the camera through VTB Online at the QR code on the receipt or terminal in large retail outlets in the country.

“Egypt is one of the top three popular destinations among tourists; in 2025, more than 1.7 million Russians visited the country. Egypt is actively developing the digital economy, supporting the introduction of QR payments and the expansion of non-cash payments. These processes are accelerated by the huge potential of the local market: more than 40% of local residents still do not use banks. We see that travelers want to pay in a familiar, fast and safe way – directly from their phone, without commission and in rubles. Payment by QR code solves this need for millions of people. This year we will expand the geography of the service to 10 countries, making holidays abroad as comfortable as possible for travelers,” said VTB Senior Vice President, Head of the Retail Business Products Department Alexey Okhorzin.

Payments are made in rubles with subsequent conversion into Egyptian pound. In this case, no commission is charged for making a payment. A similar service is already successfully operating in Vietnam, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

Today, VTB Online users can make transfers to more than 150 countries. Depending on the destination, transfers are available to them by phone number or card, by bank details, as well as in cash.
