Fraudsters impersonate gold dealers. “They prey on trust”

The problem becomes particularly important in the context of the growing popularity of investment gold in Poland. Data from the Mint of Treasury, the largest distributor of investment gold in Poland, show that already 18 percent Poles decided to purchase this precious metal in physical formwhich means an increase compared to 14 percent. in 2023
According to the company, fraudsters publish false advertisements on social networking sites and advertising platforms, offering… investment gold at prices much lower than market prices. Offers of this type should make potential investors alert. The company notes that the problem is intensifying at a time when gold is gaining importance as a “safe haven” in the face of inflation, geopolitical tensions and economic uncertainty.

— Gold has been perceived as a stable and safe component of an investment portfolio for years, especially in times of increased uncertainty. Unfortunately, the growing interest in this market is today exploited by dishonest entities that try to prey on customer trust. We are observing a significant increase in attempts to impersonate renowned brandswhich constitutes a real threat to investors – said Adam Stroniawski, member of the Management Board of Mennica Skarbowa.
The popularity of gold is growing, but so is the number of frauds
Data from the Mint of Treasury show that interest in investment gold in Poland is systematically growing. Almost every fifth Pole declares that he has investment gold in his savings. While this is a positive sign for the market, the bullion's popularity also attracts the attention of criminals. Fraudsters often take advantage of the unawareness of new investors by offering offers requiring a quick decision or prepayment to unverified accounts.
Customer education plays a key role in fraud prevention. You need to check sellers, authenticity of websites and contact details. Be especially careful with offers that seem too good to be true.
