The Minister of Justice goes to Cotroceni for discussions about the reform of the special pensions: “We did not work on this proposal, we did not write it”

The Minister of Justice, Radu Marinescu, announced that he will attend a meeting at the Cotroceni Palace on Friday, in the invitation of President Nicușor Dan, to discuss the special pensions in the justice system. Marinescu stressed that the measures presented on Tuesday by Prime Minister Bolojan are only proposals, not a final project approved by the Government or by coalition.

“There is a dialogue at the Presidency, tomorrow we are invited to the Cotroceni Palace to carry out discussions on this aspect. The coalition has already communicated that any final project will have to reflect the will and opinion of the whole coalition. said the minister.
About the reform of the special pensions, Marinescu transmitted that the Ministry of Justice does not want the courts and prosecutor's office to be depopulated. He reaffirmed the special status of the magistrates and pleaded for a responsible and balanced reform.
“We do not consider that magistrates are a professional category that must be convicted or damaged in any way. It is a professional category that has benefited from a status attributed by the Romanian state. When it is appreciated, and we tend to modify the legislation, we must make it responsible, correctly, in dialogue with the magistrates, and in the interest of the Romanian citizen” said the minister.
One of the Government's proposals stipulates that judges, prosecutors and magistrates of the Constitutional Court can retire at 65, provided a total seniority of at least 35 years. However, Marinescu said that the Ministry of Justice did not contribute to the drafting of this draft and that the initiative belongs to the prime minister.
“I suspect you saw him before asking me, and you saw what he writes there: proposal. It is a proposal for a series of texts, presented by the Prime Minister. the minister explained.
Radu Marinescu has previously declared, at Antena 3 CNN, that the reform will be implemented only if there will be consensus in the coalition, and the final project must comply with the constitutional provisions.
