Drone, fake documents and GPS trackers. A Ukrainian was detained in Germany on suspicion of sabotage

In Bavaria, during a vehicle check on the A6 autobahn, two men were detained – citizens of Ukraine and Latvia, who were suspected of espionage for the purpose of sabotage. The press service of the German police reported this on April 23.

The incident occurred on April 12 at about 21.30 near the village of Neuendettelsau. Law enforcement officers stopped a car with Latvian license plates that was moving towards the border with the Czech Republic.

“During the operation, emergency services found in the possession of two passengers of the vehicle, a 43-year-old Ukrainian and a 45-year-old Latvian citizen, various suspicious items, including forged documents, cameras, a drone, GPS trackers, walkie-talkies, several mobile phones and SIM cards. All these items were subsequently seized,” the police statement said.

According to preliminary investigation data, the suspects could have acted on behalf of “an organization or structure outside Germany.”

A court in Munich has already issued arrest warrants for both men. They are now in custody in one of the penitentiary institutions in Bavaria. It is known that none of them had permanent residence in Germany.
