Tanczos Barna says that the UDMR will not enter a government supported by the AUR. “The political moment is complicated” / “Unfortunately, this is the Romanian reality since 2004”

Tanczos Barna, deputy prime minister from the UDMR, said Thursday evening on Digi24 that the UDMR will not participate and will not support a government in which the AUR is involved

“It's complicated, I wouldn't want to use the word serious, but it's complicated from a political point of view. There are things that are basically red lines for every party. For the UDMR, for example, the red line is the participation or even the support of a government from the AUR. That government that will be supported by the AUR or in which the AUR will enter will, under no circumstances, have UDMR ministers,” said Barna, quoted by News.ro.

He suggested that the current crisis could enter a detente phase in the coming days. “Probably next week the waters will start to clear and there will be a de-escalation, which is essential for the continuation of the dialogue between the political forces,” said the deputy prime minister.

“The average life of a government is 8-10 months”

Tanczos Barna put the current instability in the wider context of the short duration of the governments in Romania. “When we enter the classic Romanian statistics, the average life of a government is between 8 and 10 months. Unfortunately, the Parliament and the political parties do not manage to last longer than this average,” he said, quoted by Mediafax.

“There are sometimes governments that stay for a year and a half. I think we beat an absolute record of two and a half years at the Ministry of Environment, in a previous government. But it is not a characteristic matter for a minister to stay at the ministry for years,” said Tanczos Barna.

“It is not a good thing. Unfortunately, this has been the Romanian reality since 2004. The last government that, head-to-head, completed its mandate was, I think, the Năstase government,” he added.

Later, the prime minister announced the replacements for the vacant portfolios: for Transport, Radu Miruță, for Labor, Dragoș Pâslaru, for Health, Cseke Attila, for Agriculture, Tanczos Barna, for Justice, Cătălin Predoiu and for Energy, Ilie Bolojan.
