“Russia takes a hit to its image.” Budanov on the consequences of attacks on oil refineries

Drone attacks on Russian oil refineries lead to the disruption of Russian contracts and damage its image, making it an unreliable supplier. The head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Kirill Budanov, stated this on April 23 during the 18th annual Kyiv Security Forum (KSF), a correspondent of the GORDON publication reports.

“Russia is taking a hit to its image. This is the most important thing, because it will affect… These oil sanctions of ours [удары по РФ] will end someday when the war ends. It will happen someday anyway. But the blow to the image will last for a very long time, because it is called into question [статус] Russia as a reliable supplier who can deliver its raw materials to the destination country,” Budanov said.

When asked how often partners ask Ukraine not to attack oil refineries, he replied that he first encountered such a request back in 2023.

“That is, this is not something that has appeared now,” Budanov emphasized.

He pointed out that these calls have intensified due to the oil crisis caused by events first in Venezuela and then in Iran. “Yes, such appeals exist, let’s put it bluntly,” Budanov said.

When asked how Ukraine reacts to such requests, the head of the OP answered: “Restrained.”
