In Ukraine, a monument to Lenin was converted into a monument to Taras Shevchenko: there wasn’t enough money for a new statue
In the village of Kotlyarka in the Zhytomyr region, after the adoption of the law on decommunization, they decided not to demolish the monument to Lenin, but to remake it into a monument to Shevchenko. A local artist sawed down the leader's face and turned the jacket into a coat.
Local authorities admit that the reason for the impromptu move is lack of money. If the monument to Lenin were demolished, there would not be enough to install a new monument. Therefore, the artist removed the copper from the statue, sold it, and purchased materials for the work with the proceeds.
