Ciucu: We don't negotiate with AUR / We don't cling to the government like a curtain rod

Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan received a “mandate” to hold discussions about governance only with USR, UDMR and the group of national minorities, Ciprian Ciucu said on Tuesday, in an intervention on Antena 3 CNN, quoted by News.ro. The first vice-president of the PNL states that any representative of the party who would talk to the AUR for political support would do so “on his own account”.

“We are not negotiating with the AUR for support. We are simply moving on, we are waiting to see what the PSD will do. We are not negotiating with the AUR. (…) I can assure you that we have not had discussions with the AUR and the president of the party did not receive a mandate to negotiate with the AUR, he received an exclusive mandate, today, to discuss with the coalition parties. We will not negotiate with the AUR, to be very clear,” declared Ciprian Ciucu.

He also said that if any PNL member will have discussions about governance with the party led by George Simion, he will do it “on his beard”.

The first vice-president of the PNL also spoke about the scenario in which the PSD submits a motion of censure:

“We don't necessarily want to stay in the government. Whoever will bring down this government, let them undertake to do another one without us, to be very clear. (…) They were respected, they were part of the decision, they had a governing protocol. If the PSD is brought down by a censure motion initiated by them or by others, they will have to take it upon themselves. We do not cling to the government like a curtain rod”.

PNL has started negotiations for a minority government

The extended leadership of the liberals re-expressed their support for Prime Minister Bolojan on Tuesday, in a four-hour meeting, as a result of PSD's decision to demand his resignation.

At the end of the meeting, Ilie Bolojan announced that PNL will no longer form a coalition with PSD because it has generated a political crisis, and the liberals will start discussions with the parties that support the current government – USR, UDMR, minorities – to find a minority government formula.

Also on Monday, PNL had a meeting with USR, on the topic of governance. “We had a very productive meeting between two teams. We agreed that in the coming days we will coordinate very closely. I reiterated USR's position that we support Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, a reform-oriented government, which has started to clean up. And I reiterated the fact that if PSD decides to vote a no-confidence motion, USR will no longer be able to negotiate the restoration of other unhealthy majorities”, announced Dominic Fritz.

Dominic Fritz stated that PNL and USR together have more votes than PSD, which is why PSD cannot decide the future alone.

The Prime Minister stated that tomorrow there will be discussions with the UDMR and minorities, in parallel with the consultations with President Nicușor Dan.
