President Nicușosr Dan stated, on Thursday evening, on Antena 3, that there are discussions on several levels with the officials in Washington, including the preparations for his visit to the White House. Asked what he would like most from President Donald Trump, Nicușor Dan mentioned the continuation of the American military presence in Romania.
Nicușor Dan said that things “returned to normal” in the relationship with the United States, after the cancellation of the presidential elections in Romania that occurred during the change of administration in Washington.
About Thursday's meeting with President Donald Trump, Nicușor Dan said that no substantive issues were addressed, due to the specifics of the Peace Council meeting.
“Beyond the fact that it was a warm interaction, there were pleasantries, not matters of substance. We were reiterated this sympathy of President Trump for Romania,” commented Dan.

Instead, the president said that work is being done bilaterally on important projects. “First of all, the two essential elements are security and the economy. We are working on several elements of potentially substantial economic collaborations that need to be realized. At the beginning of March, the new US ambassador will arrive in Bucharest and this will dynamize the relationship we have and at a certain point, quite close, the economic projects will reach a maturity that will allow them to be realized”, stated Nicușor Dan.
Asked what is the most important thing he would ask of President Donald Trump, Nicușor Dan answered: “The fact that we have American soldiers in Romania is very good for Romania. The most important thing in the bilateral relationship is the continuation of the American military presence in our country.”

The Romanian president said that there is a discussion with the American partners, as well as with the European ones on the subject of rare minerals, specifying that he wants investments from the US, as well as the EU in the exploitation and processing of the resources available to Romania. In addition, he also mentioned collaboration in the energy field, with a particular interest in reactors 3 and 4 of the Cernavodă nuclear power plant.
