Vadim Klyuchnik

Saint Vadim, whose memory is celebrated on this day, was an archimandrite in Persia in the 4th century. On the day of Vadim, popularly nicknamed the Keyholder, people went to the springs (springs), cleaned them and said: “Underground water, we open the spring paths for you.” After this, they took water from the springs, washed themselves with it and drank it – it was believed that this would improve health.

They also used the sources to guess about the death and life of sick people. When they went to the spring to get water, they didn’t talk to anyone, but when they arrived, they prayed in all four directions and asked about the person: alive or dead? If the wished for had a long life, the water should be as clear as glass. If the patient was expected to die, the springs could begin to boil violently.

Vadim Klyuchnik also began driving cattle to the meadows, where fresh grass had already grown sufficiently.
