Igli Tare (52 years old), his former sports director AC Milanwas heard for six hours at the Prosecutor's Office in Albania. He did not make any statement when he left.
Hard times have come for Igli Tare. First released by AC Milan boss Jerry Cardinale after a disappointing season, he now faces big problems in his home country.
Igli Tare is accused of money laundering and corruption
In Albania, Tare is accused of money laundering and corruption, and yesterday he was summoned to the Prosecutor's Office, where, according to Corriere dello Sport, he was subjected to a veritable barrage of questions for six hours!
The ongoing investigation also implicates former Albanian Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Ballukuaccused of violating tender procedures. The Albanian Special Prosecutor's Office against Organized Crime and Corruption (SPAK) is investigating the incident and has apparently decided that the former Lazio player is no stranger to what happened.
Villa offered to a former deputy prime minister as a bribe!
The investigation is still ongoing and the link between the former AC Milan sporting director and Balluku is said to be a villa on the Ionian coast of Albania. The villa would have been offered to the former deputy prime minister as a bribe for a contract awarded to a construction company, when he was a manager at the air traffic control company “Albcontrol”.
To cover up the operation, the property was registered in the name of Igli Tarethe latter drawing up “a fictitious lease with Balluku's former chief of staff”. Therefore, according to investigators, Tare's villa is effectively owned by Balluku, who has allegedly been using it over the years.
These are only alleged allegations, which will have to be proven in the later stages of the proceedings, but they look very bad for Tare at the moment. The former striker of Partizani Tirana, Karlsruhe, Fortuna Dusseldorf, Kaiserslautern, Brescia, Bologna and Lazio he collected 68 selections in the Albanian national team, for which he scored 10 goals.
