The EC admitted that it was aware of Moscow's statement and the threats against the spokeswoman. Ujvari stressed that worker safety is the Commission's top priority. He added that the provisions of the staff regulations show that the EC is prepared for its employees to face threats.

– We are prepared for such scenarios and have an obligation to provide assistance to employees affected by such threats – said the spokesman.

On Friday, shortly after the European Commission's spokeswoman for foreign affairs, Anitta Hipper, said at a press briefing in Brussels that there was no evidence that Ukraine was using the airspace of member states to attack Russia, the Russian Security Council published a statement via the TASS news agency attacking the spokeswoman and mentioning her name.

The release speculated that Hipper had certainly received a good education, so she must not have known that drones do not come from space, but move in the air. It was also suggested that the spokeswoman should be careful not to encounter a drone on her way to work.

“We doubt that Mrs. Hipper would feel any positive emotions if one day she was leaving home, on her way to work at the EC office, and came across a 'stray' Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicle with an armed warhead,” the statement said.

The Council also referred to reports that Ukrainian drones allegedly landed on Finnish territory. “Probably, European Commission spokeswoman Anita Hipper has not heard about these statements and facts regarding the crashes of Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles in EU countries or does not want to hear about them,” it wrote.
