Peter Magyar has announced who will lead key ministries in his future government. Some have previously held positions in Viktor Orban's governments

Andras Karman will take over the position of finance minister, Anita Orban that of foreign affairs minister, and Istvan Kapitany that of economy and energy minister in the future Budapest government, Peter Magyar announced on Monday, according to Reuters and HVG.

They will be part of the government led by Peter Magyar that will end Viktor Orban's 16-year rule. Magyar's party, Tisza, won a landslide victory in the June 12 election and will have two-thirds in the upcoming Parliament.

The election result will allow Magyar to revise some of Orban's contested reforms to unlock billions of euros in funds that the European Union has frozen over concerns about the rule of law.

“I have already said it several times, this is a huge mandate, an enormous majority and at least as big a responsibility,” Magyar said after the first meeting of his parliamentary group on Monday.

“This was the key point of today's parliamentary group meeting, to discuss with our fellow parliamentarians what this responsibility means and how we can live up to this responsibility 24/7, every day of the year,” added Magyar.

Who is part of the future government?

Andras Karman, former chief executive of Erste Bank, takes over Finance. He also served as a board member of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and was State Secretary at the Ministry of Economy after the election of Viktor Orban in 2010.

Anita Orban, no relation to Viktor Orban, takes over the Foreign portfolio. She served as director of public relations at Vodafone and held various diplomatic positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the first Viktor Orban government between 2010 and 2015.

Istvan Kapitány, who will take over Economia, led a team of 500,000 employees at Shell, according to Hungarian publication HVG. He left Shell in 2024, then became a Tisza party expert in January 2026, and has now entered parliament from fifth place on the Tisza list.

Zsolt Hegedűs, who went viral with his dance on stage on election night, will lead the Ministry of Health. The orthopedic doctor was the first candidate for the position of minister officially announced, in December 2025.

Romulus Rusin-Szendi will lead the Ministry of Defense. He was commander of the Hungarian Defense Forces (HVKF) from 2021 to 2023. Although he was praised by Fidesz when he left office, after being co-opted as an expert by Tisza Fidesz launched multiple attacks, from the fact that he had liposuction to accusations of excessive spending on work accommodation to the fact that he carries weapons.

The future head of the Ministry of Environment, Nature and Animal Protection will be László Gajdos, who for 30 years ran the Nyíregyháza Zoo, which he also founded. Gajdos, who enjoys great popularity locally, entered the new Parliament after winning his constituency with 64.77%, getting more than twice as many votes as his Fidesz opponent.

The head of the ministry responsible for agriculture and food production will be Szabolcs Bóna. The agricultural engineer, who is also a farmer, will be a member of the government without a parliamentary position, as he was not on the list and lost as an independent candidate by a margin of 642 votes to Alpár Gyopáros, who was elected for the sixth time from Fidesz.

Magyar said his government could take power on May 11, after he is expected to be sworn in on May 9 or 10 during the inaugural session of parliament.
