Nicușor Dan was accused of allegedly trying to block a project in the Văcărești Delta area, when he was a civic activist, reports ProTV News.
The president had to explain, in front of the court, the steps taken in the past, together with the non-governmental organization Eco-Civica, when he was vice president of the Save Bucharest Association.
These actions concerned the contestation of urban plans and building permits obtained by a real estate developer, who later built a residential complex in the Văcărești Delta area, according to the cited source.
After these steps, considered by the developer to be abusive and carried out in bad faith, the company opened a process of tort liability. Compensation of one million euros, plus legal interest, is requested, both from NGOs and from the people involved, including Nicușor Dan.
Asked by the activist Marian Ceaușescu what he will do if the court wins for the plaintiff, Nicușor Dan said: “However, I hope that there is a balance, there is a decision of the Court of Justice of the Union that says that we must not limit the exercise of certain rights.”
In the first instance, at the court, those sued won their case. However, the final decision is to be taken by the Bucharest Court of Appeal, which has determined that it cannot make a final decision before the people involved in those actions are heard directly.
