Demonstration of support for Ilie Bolojan in Victoriei Square. A former deputy prime minister among the protesters, a former minister expelled

Several hundred people came, on Monday evening, to Piața Victoriei in Bucharest, to support Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, at the same time that the PSD is conducting the internal referendum in which the members decided to withdraw their political support for the liberal Prime Minister.

The people in Piața Victoriei have gathered since 18.00 and are demonstrating peacefully. Some came with the EU flag and other protesters brought placards that read “Real administration, not political show” or “I'm selling shoe boxes with numbers”.

Among those in Piața Victoriei, on the sidelines, were, at one point, former Deputy Prime Minister Dragoș Anastasiu. He resigned from this position in July 2025, one month after he was appointed, following the scandal of the bribery of an ANAF employee for eight years.

Contacted by HotNews, Anastasiu explained why he came to the demonstration: “The reason is simple: the last thing Romania needs is an unnecessary political crisis, the stakes of which are incomprehensible. With the result that all citizens of the country, with some exceptions, will suffer.”

The demonstration has not been officially announced and has no organizer, the announcement spreading on social networks.

“I support Ilie Bolojan from the very first day he took over the position of prime minister, I think he is the only one capable of restoring Romania. I think PSD will withdraw its ministers and trigger the political crisis, which they have been doing for 35 years,” Alexandru (27 years old), a participant in the demonstration, told HotNews.

At one point, Radu Berceanu, former Minister of Transport in three governments between 1998 and 2010, also appeared in Victoriei Square, who was booed by several demonstrators, including Marian Moroșanu, known as Ceaușescu.

Around 5,000 PSD members decided to withdraw their political support. The vote was for the withdrawal of support, in a percentage of 97.7%, because, as the president of the party, Sorin Grindeanu, declares, the mayors, the simple members of the PSD are dissatisfied with the direction in which Romania is heading.
