A 54-year-old man was detained by the police on Thursday on charges of aggravated theft after he stole six thermal power plants with an estimated value of 8,000 euros, the Capital Police reported in a press release.

The police were informed about the theft by a block administrator in Bucharest. He alleged that a man entered the building under construction on January 21 and dismantled six boilers that he stole.

According to sources from the investigation, the theft took place in a block on Țepeș Vodă Street in Sector 2 of the Capital. Street surveillance cameras caught the man leaving with the stolen goods in a shopping cart.

“Following the investigative-operative activities carried out, a 54-year-old man was identified, known to have criminal concerns, suspected of committing the act”, the Capital Police reports in a press release.

On Thursday morning, the police conducted a search, located the suspect and took him in for questioning. The man was detained for 24 hours and is to be brought before the court for a preventive measure.

The investigations are being continued by the police officers of the 8th Police Department, under the supervision of the Prosecutor's Office attached to the 2nd District Court, under the aspect of committing the crime of qualified theft.
