Bulgaria. Over 2,900 reports of violations. The Ministry of Internal Affairs initiates investigations


— We received a total of 2,974 reports of possible irregularities during Sunday's parliamentary elections, which is more than three times more than during the last elections in October 2024, Emil Dechev, acting head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Bulgaria, said during a press conference.

He announced shortly after the polls closed which parties had been included in reports of electoral irregularities, including vote buying.

Oligarch Delian Peevsky's DPS-New Beginnings was included in 631 reports of electoral crimes, former Prime Minister Boyko Borissov's GERB in 318, the nationalist Revival in 18, former president Rumen Radev's Progressive Bulgaria in 16, the Bulgarian Socialist Party in 13, and the Continue Change-Democratic Bulgaria coalition in 11.

Deczew noted that the Ministry of Internal Affairs received many more reports that did not mention a specific party or coalition. He announced that 72 investigations have already been initiated against people with immunities, and a total of 614 cases have already been opened, which is more than five times more than in 2024. 425 people have been detained.

Elections in Bulgaria

According to exit polls published by several centers, the Progressive Bulgaria of former president Rumen Radev won the early elections, gaining from 35.5 to 39.2 percent. votes. Next came the GERB party (from 15.1 to 17.5 percent), We Continue Changes – Democratic Bulgaria (from 13.1 to 14.1 percent), DPS-New Beginning (from 7.5 to 10.3 percent), Rebirth (4.9 to 5.9 percent) and the Bulgarian Socialist Party (3.9 to 4.1 percent).
