Russia offers to take Iran's enriched uranium to ease tensions over nuclear program

Moscow is continuing its attempts to defuse tensions around Iran, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Monday, saying Russia was willing to help withdraw and process or store Iran's enriched uranium on its territory.

Peskov stated that this option has been on the diplomatic agenda for a long time and could contribute to the reduction “irritant factors” linked to the Islamic Republic's nuclear program.
“Russia proposed these services as an option that would lead to the reduction of certain irritating factors”, the Russian official said at the daily press conference, according to Reuters and EFE.
According to him, Moscow maintains its contacts with all parties involved and expresses its willingness to facilitate, as far as possible, the reduction of tensions in the region. “Russia maintains its efforts and contacts with all interested parties,” Peskov pointed out.
Negotiations between the United States and Iran on a new nuclear deal stalled last year after the outbreak of war between Israel and Iran. The conflict subsequently escalated, with the US joining military operations and bombing three Iranian nuclear facilities.
The United States has currently deployed the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier and three guided-missile destroyers, along with thousands of military personnel, near Iranian waters in the Persian Gulf. The move came after US President Donald Trump said he supported protests against the ayatollahs' regime.
