Several victims after an armed attack in Kyiv. The attacker barricaded himself in a supermarket

A man opened fire on civilians in the Ukrainian capital's Holosiivskyi district on Saturday and was eventually killed by authorities. Five people died in the incident, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky.

“We expect a quick investigation,” said Volodymyr Zelensky, who sent a message of condolences to the bereaved families.

The president specified that he had sent the competent authorities to make available to the public “all the verified information”.

The attacker had barricaded himself in a supermarket after opening fire, according to statements made by Mayor Vitali Klitschko on Telegram. The mayor had said that according to preliminary information, gunshots were also heard inside the store.

Police units and special forces from the rapid reaction structure were mobilized at the scene, notes The Kyiv Independent.

In the message sent on social networks, President Zelenski also stated that four hostages were rescued.
