The new Super League season starts during the World Cup!

The FRF Executive Committee, meeting in the meeting of April 16, 2026, validated the competition calendars for the 2026-2027 season, both in terms of the SuperLiga and the Romanian Cup.

The new season of the domestic competition will debut on the weekend of July 11-12, 2026, during the World Championship in the USACanada and Mexico! The two semifinals will take place on July 14 and 15, respectively, in Arlington and Atlanta, respectively, the small final on the 18th, in Miami, and the final on July 19th, in New Jersey!

The Romanian Supercup, the 2026 edition, will be played on July 4, in the week before the start of the new championship, on the field of the champions, another new aspect adopted after CEx.

The winter break will begin after the 21st stage, scheduled for December 19-20.

The domestic competition will resume on 16-17 January 2027, while the play-off and play-out stages are set to begin on the weekend of 20-21 March. The last play-off round, the 10th leg, is scheduled for 29-30 May 2027.

New regulations brought to the Romanian Cup

As for the Romanian Betano Cup, it will start on July 8, 2026, with the first stage of the groups in the regional phase of the competition, and will end with the final scheduled for May 12, 2027.

Starting next season, to ensure each participating team in the group stage at least one game played at homethe schedule of matches will be established according to the new amendments to Article 30 of the ROAF. The novelty is that the matches of the teams in Urna 1 and Urna 2 will be one at home and one away when they play each other.

Also, from next season, the order of the stages will be established for each group separately, so that in each round there is at least one match between two teams from Urn 1.

Several Super League clubs have recently complained about the current format of the competition, having played all three of their group stage games away from home. Among them, FCSB, already eliminated from the group stage in the last two seasons of the Romanian Cup.
