The first time Bolojan told the liberals what he would do if the PSD asked him to resign. “When someone curses you, it's like a blessing”

Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan went to the PNL headquarters in Bucharest on Wednesday evening, where he announced to the liberals that he will not resign as head of the Government, according to PNL General Counsel Silviu Feroiu. The visit took place a few days before the PSD consultation on support for Bolojan.

  • Several people participating in the meeting on Wednesday evening confirmed for HotNews that Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan told his colleagues from PNL Bucharest that he does not intend to resign as head of the Government.

“An extraordinary surprise that we had today (Wednesday no) at the headquarters of the National Liberal Party in Bucharest: Prime Minister Bolojan came for an unannounced visit”, announced Silviu Feroiu, PNL general councilor in the Capital City Hall, on his Facebook page.

Feroiu said that the discussions “were open and direct”: “Most of us clearly conveyed to him that we do not want him to resign and his answer was equally firm: he will not”.

The liberal added that Bolojan, when asked how he manages to withstand the wave of criticism, including from some colleagues in the government, answered “simple and memorable: “When some people curse you, it's like a blessing”.

“A message that says a lot about determination. One thing is certain: the reforms will continue, on all levels,” Silviu Feroiu also said.

Burduja: “He spoke to us about the fact that real politics is done with a straight back”

Bolojan's visit to PNL Bucharest was also announced by the president of PNL Bucharest, Sebastian Burduja.

“Colleagues from the PNL Bucharest team gathered at Modrogan 22 for our traditional Easter meeting. We greeted each other with “Christ is Risen”, we collided eggs, we were in the family again. As we are every year, regardless of how agitated the politics around us are. And when we thought the evening was complete, Ilie Bolojan appeared”, wrote Burduja on Wednesday evening, on his Facebook page.

“The Prime Minister of Romania and the president of the National Liberal Party came between us spontaneously: without protocol, without a prepared speech. He spoke as he always likes: on the leash, from the heart, looking people in the eyes. He spoke to us about responsibility, about character, about the courage to choose what is right instead of what is easy. About the fact that real politics is done with a straight back, not with a bowed head,” Burduja added.

Also on Wednesday, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan was at the Cotroceni Palace, where he talked with President Nicușor Dan for about 2 hours, official sources told HotNews.

Neither the Victoria Palace nor the Presidential Administration has made an official announcement about this meeting or the topics discussed by the two.

The PSD plan after Monday's meeting

Approximately 5,000 PSD members will vote, on April 20, whether or not they will withdraw their political support for Prime Minister Bolojan in the consultation that Sorin Grindeanu first announced more than 5 months ago, at the beginning of December. The details of how the consultation will be conducted have also been established.

PSD leaders expect the vote to be overwhelmingly in favor of withdrawing Bolojan's support.

Then, if after the withdrawal of political support the prime minister will not resign, one of the main scenarios considered by the social democrats is the withdrawal of the ministers from the Government, not the secretaries of state or the prefects.
