Maria Zaharova, the spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, has voiced strong criticism over the appointment of Romanian politician Claudiu Năsui to the Moldovan government. She stated that this move effectively hands over the entire economic sector of Moldova to officials in Bucharest.
Zaharova remarked, “The pro-Western forces in Moldova have acknowledged their incompetence and lack of qualified candidates by appointing former Romanian Minister of Economy, Claudiu Năsui, to the government of the Republic. Chișinău has now officially and openly surrendered the country to Bucharest.” This comment came during a press conference reported by the Russian state news agency TASS.
According to Zaharova, the Moldovan government is transferring almost the entire economic landscape to private individuals from Bucharest amid ongoing economic crises within the Republic. She reacted to the news of Năsui’s appointment as Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization.
Additionally, Zaharova highlighted that the decree granting Năsui Moldovan citizenship was signed by President Maia Sandu on the same day, describing it as a mere formality to minimize contestation.
“In this way, the pro-Western forces of the republic acknowledge their own incompetence and the absence of worthy candidates for this post in their own country, effectively handing Moldova over not just to anyone but to a foreign state,” Zaharova added.
She also claimed that the Moldovan people strongly reject such anti-popular initiatives from their leadership, which she argues result in a loss of the country’s independence and destruction of its national identity.
Năsui Appointed Minister of Economic Development in Moldova
Claudiu Năsui is set to take office as the Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization in Moldova, with an oath-taking ceremony scheduled for Friday, as announced by Prime Minister Vasile Tofan at the government’s session on Wednesday.
Tofan explained his choice of Năsui for the ministerial role, citing the politician’s extensive experience in both politics and the private sector, particularly in finance, as well as his previous tenure as Romania’s Minister of Economy.
The Prime Minister noted that Năsui’s selection is crucial for implementing deep economic reforms. “Claudiu Năsui is an experienced economist and politician who has previously served as Romania’s Minister of Economy, has been a parliamentarian, and has extensive experience in the private sector, including finance. We face significant structural issues in our economy and need bold action. He believes the government should courageously cut excessive costs, pursue lower taxes, and ensure better-managed state enterprises. This aligns perfectly with our government’s program and the challenges we face,” Tofan stated, as reported by Agerpres.
Tofan had announced on Tuesday two changes in the Moldovan government, proposing Eugeniu Osmochescu as the new Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry, while Năsui would replace Osmochescu as Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization.
Năsui confirmed on Facebook that he accepted the position in Prime Minister Tofan’s government, which necessitated his resignation from his parliamentary role in Bucharest.
“I strongly resonate with the vision of Mr. Vasile Tofan, the new Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, for this country: to make Moldova the most welcoming country for entrepreneurs,” Năsui stated.
Năsui has already received Moldovan citizenship through a decree signed by President Maia Sandu, a legal requirement for assuming the ministerial role.
