Donald Trump announces a meeting of the leaders of Israel and Iran. “It's been a long time”

“I'm trying to create some breathing space between Israel and Lebanon. It's been a long time since the two leaders last spoke to each other – 34 years,” wrote Donald Trump on his Truth Social website.
The American president announced that the leaders' meeting would take place “tomorrow.” The entry was posted around 5.30 Polish time. So in the USA it was still late Wednesday evening. This means that negotiations are to take place on Thursday, April 16.

The Israeli army launched an operation against Hezbollah in early March, conducting airstrikes in Lebanon as well as ground operations in the south of that country. The conflict erupted after Iran-backed Hezbollah began attacking Israel's north again. This, in turn, was a reaction to the American-Israeli strikes against Iran that began on February 28.
