The Mossad has a new chief. Who will replace David Barnea after a 5-year mandate

The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announces the appointment of Roman Gofman as director of the Mossad, informs Reuters.
Benjamin Netanyahu announced his intention to nominate Gofman in December 2025, and a committee tasked with making appointments to key positions in the leadership of the Israeli state approved the decision on Sunday.
Roman Gofman, 49, is an experienced army general who exemplified the swift intervention on Israel's southern border, attacked by Hamas on October 7, 2023. He currently serves as the Prime Minister's Military Secretary.
Gofman will take over in June from David Barnea, who has been Mossad chief since 2021. Barnea already had a 25-year career inside Mossad, where he was particularly responsible for recruiting agents on issues related to Iran and Lebanese Hezbollah before becoming deputy director in 2018.
