Nicușor Dan, message for Peter Magyar after the “clear victory”. “Let's build a new chapter in Romanian-Hungarian relations”

President Nicușor Dan sent, through a post on X, a congratulatory message to Peter Magyar after his party, Tisza, won Sunday's parliamentary elections.

“Congratulations Peter Magyar and Tisza for a clear victory! The Hungarian people have spoken with a clear and strong voice,” Nicușor Dan begins his message.

The Romanian president evokes the partnership that the two countries have within the European Union and NATO.

“I look forward to building a new chapter in Romanian-Hungarian relations, based on mutual respect, sincere dialogue and common commitment to European and Euro-Atlantic values,” Nicușor Dan said.

“There are great opportunities for collaboration in terms of regional security, economic cooperation and the well-being of our peoples”, concluded the President of Romania.

Hungarians voted in large numbers (over 77.8%) on Sunday in a crucial election for the country's future, closely watched in the EU, Moscow and Washington. Official figures showed a clear lead for the opposition led by Péter Magyar, who may have the parliamentary majority needed to topple the Fidesz system.

After counting 72% of the votes, the projection for the 199-seat parliament looks like this:

Tisza: 138 mandates
Fidesz: 54 mandates
Mi Hazánk (Our Fatherland): 7 mandates

If the results are ultimately confirmed, Tisza will have a constitutional majority that will allow her to make major changes to replace the Fidesz system.
